About Me
Interview questions and answers:
Tell me about a time when you felt discriminated against, picked on, or bullied and how that impacts how you do your job?
When I was in the Air Force I had a Master Sergeant tell me that he believed I was untrustworthy because I am an Atheist and in his view, “we all have to believe in something.” I had previously felt that this Sergeant had seemed to single me out for nitpicking – nothing I did was good enough, even though I was one of the most experienced in my shop. As he as at the top of our section, I felt powerless to do anything about it. This set of circumstances had an effect of creating a feeling of hopelessness because no matter how well I did the job, I knew he would look at me differently.
Who or what inspired you to become an attorney?
This is deeply personal for me, but I would say that I was marginalized and mistreated throughout my childhood due to a perceived disability. Not necessarily by my parents, but the “system.” This experience made me angry as a teenager, and as I matured, that anger turned into a passion for fighting on behalf of the oppressed.
What is your favorite employee’s rights act? Why?
The Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”) is near and dear to me because it is literally about recovering stolen wages from employers and giving them back to the workers who earned them – and often double that amount.
